When Ajith shot for two days with Murugadoss

After Murugadoss complete Ramana in 2002 with Vijayakanth, he was to do a film with Ajith by the name Mirattal. The project kicked off and even two days of shoot were done but for some reason the movie was shelved much to the disappointment of fans.
Asin was Ajith’s co-star in this movie and the promo posters of the movie featuring Ajith in a gothic look with long locks are still remembered. Yuvan Shankar Raja was to compose music for the movie and the late Jeeva was signed on as the cinematographer.
Now, with the buzz going around that Ajith and Murugadoss are set to reunite in 2013 for a movie under Ayngaran International’s production, the disappointment caused by Mirattal’s dropping might just be forgotten.

"Simbu is my god father," Santhanam

The music album of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya was released recently. Santhanam, who is also the producer of the film, took the opportunity to thank the star who introduced him to the film industry. “When everybody hesitated to use me in films, Simbu took the risk of casting me in his own film, Manmadhan. That special bond continues and I’m still part of almost all his films,” said the comedian.
Simbu has done a cameo in Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya and he hasn’t charged Santhanam for that. “He has guided me on so many occasions and that’s why I consider him as my ‘Godfather’”, praised Santhanam.
Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiyaa stars Santhanam, Powerstar Srinivasan and newcomer Sethu in the lead roles and Vishaka Singh plays the female lead. Thaman has scored the music and Manikandan has helmed the megaphone.

Truth behind Bala's Paradesi choice

After working with top actors like Suriya, Vikram, Arya and Vishal, Bala, out of the blue, picked the budding actor, Atharva for his next film Paradesi. The truth behind his choice came out of shadows recently. During his school days Bala had supposedly met late Murali, father of Atharva, during a shoot. Later, while working as an assistant director, he is said to have met the actor again in Chennai.

Murali supposedly took Bala to a few producers and requested them to give him a chance. Keeping the favour in mind, Bala in order to repay the late actor gave Atharva the lead role in Paradesi.

Paradesi, which also stars Vedhika and Dhansika in central roles, is set to release on December 21st.

Karthi's new record

The Kerala distribution rights of Karthi’s next release Alex Pandian, directed by Suraaj, have been sold for a record amount considering Karthi’s previous films. The final amount is 1.10 crores and Sayujyam have purchased the rights.
The audio of this DSP musical will be launched on 12^th December to coincide with the original Alex Pandian Rajinikanth’s birthday.
Anushka is pairing up with Karthi after her small cameo role in Saguni as a lady cop. We had earlier reported that Alex Pandian would also have a dubbed Malayalam version to cash in on Karthi’s popularity in Kerala. But he isn’t comfortable enough to dub for himself in Malayalam as yet.

Mani Ratnam's next and Bala's offer !

It is believed that Mani Ratnam is busy giving finishing touches to Kadal at the moment, but apparently that hasn’t seemed to hold the ace filmmaker back from preparing groundwork for his next project. Mani Ratnam, who is usually known to take his time after a release to decide and plan his next project, has supposedly shifted his stance and has already commenced pre-production for his next outing.
It is learnt that the director has employed writer Jeyamohan to begin working on his duties for the film which is expected to be a big budget affair.
Elsewhere, director Bala has expressed his desire, in an interview, to work as an assistant director with Mani Ratnam. Given the opportunity he said he would oblige any day, any time!

Vijay makes Sneha and Piaa jump

Vijay watched his cousin Sneha Britto's remake of his father SA Chandrasekhar's film, Sattam Oru Iruttarai and gave his feedback. Word is that he loved the film and had good things to say about it. Sneha called up leading lady Piaa at once to tell her all the nice things Vijay had said about the film and the two started jumping in joy!
Piaa mentioned all this on her microblogging site and added that she had spoken to the producer as well, who told her that Sangeetha, Vijay's wife had also loved the film and made a special mention of Piaa. The entire SOI team is giddy with excitement and they are waiting for the film's big release on December 21st.

"Vasanth was supposed to direct Rajinikanth"

Director Suresh Krissna who worked with Superstar Rajinikanth on films like Baasha and Baba recently released a book called ‘My Days with Baasha’ which recalls his accounts with the Superstar.
During a recent interview, he narrated one such account relating to the filming of Annamalai. He said that Vasanth had been the original choice of Kavithalaya Productions but he had backed out due to personal reasons. The opportunity then came knocking at Suresh Krissna’s door through K. Balachander, who had requested him to take up the project.
He revealed that he had commenced the shooting within two days of receiving the call from K.B, and that the story itself hadn’t taken shape yet at the point. He also said that several scenes and dialogues, including the classic ‘kannakku’ scene were developed literally on the spot. Suresh Krissna admitted that it was sheer destiny and magic that he could work on a blockbuster film like Annamalai.

Top actor's son in Bala's next!

Writer Jeyamohan looks to be one of the most sought after writers in the industry after stamping his excellence in the recently released Neerparavai and his participation in the forthcoming Mani Ratnam release, Kadal.
The writer recently revealed that he will be assuming writing responsibilities for Bala's next film. He said that a top actor’s son is expected to play the lead in it, but refused to divulge any further information on that. His other upcoming projects include Vasantha Balan’s Kaaviya Thalaivan starring Siddarth, which will reportedly have music by A.R. Rahman.

Bharathiraja backs Kamal Haasan

A press meet was held recently by the Producers Association and the Tamil Theater Owners Association, to express their views on Kamal Haasan’s DTH release model. The producers lent their full support to Kamal, whereas the other party disagreed and expressed their fear of losing the audience.
Director Bharathiraja, who was also present at the meet, spoke for Kamal and said that this trend would only bring more people to theater. The veteran director also recollected how the theater owners were against telecasting songs in television. “But it in fact brought more people to theaters,” pointed out Bharathiraja. The satellite rights trend, which was earlier opposed, was also pointed out by the producers association.
Abirami Ramanathan and K.R were also present among other officials.

Vijay's fans recommend Venkat Prabhu

Vijay's fans have been harboring a wish to see their favorite star do a movie with the Mankatha director Venkat Prabhu ever since Venkat made it big with his Ajith movie. On a particular ‘Vijay Special’ episode of the game show that Venkat Prabhu is hosting for a private TV channel, the director was recommended by the participating Vijay fans directly to their star through the program.
We have to see if this direct recommendation by his fans results in Vijay acceding to their wish. Currently, both Venkat and Vijay are busy with their respective projects and fans have to wait for some more months to see if anything happens in this regard.

Ameer eyes Poland next, for Aadhi Bhagavan

Aadhi Bhagavan seems to be fast nearing its release date after nearly two years of production. Just one song remains to be shot. The melodious number ‘Oru Thuli Vishamai’ composed by Yuvan, is set to be shot in Poland by Ameer and crew from December 16^th. Ameer will visit Poland three days in advance to do some location scouting and make sure that all the arrangements are done for the shoot.
This song will have an important role in the movie’s screenplay, Ameer asserts. Jayam Ravi and Neetu Chandra can be expected to bring some good chemistry on-screen for this track.

Amy Jackson Romance With Illaya Thalapathy Vijay ?

It is now confirmed that Vijay will be directed by Gautham Menon in the year 2012 and he will use the Thuppariyum Anand script that he had approached Ajith with. This film will be shot mainly in foreign countries; therefore, Gautham will require a foreign actress to play the heroine.

With Amy Jackson playing Trisha’s role in the Hindi version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya, Gautham, who is directing the movie, has decided to cast her opposite the Ilayathalapathy, sources report.

Anjali enters Tollywood

Actress Anjali who has been busy bee in the Tamil industry has made a break into Tollywood and has a couple of Telugu projects under her belt. The actress is currently shooting in Hyderabad with the likes of Samantha and Shruti Hassan. Reports even suggest that she is happy about sharing screens with other actors.

"She is excited about Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu which is releasing this month. The film has Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh. She is paired up with Venkatesh in the flick. Though the film has Samantha, she has essayed the title role Seetha in the film. She will be shooting for a film with Ravi Teja later this month which also has Shruti Haasan" says a source close to Anjali.

In addition to these films, Anjali is also busy with her Tamil projects including Settai and MGR. Interestingly; both these films have several actors in them too. It is also to be noted that she is doing an item number in Singam 2.

Who is Trisha in 'Boologam'?

Trisha wowed the audience by playing a Malayalee girl in 'Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya'. Now she seems to be repeating the act in 'Boologam'.

"Trisha plays a Malayalee girl in Boologam. It is a very interesting role and she enjoys being part of the movie," say sources close to the unit.

Directed by debutant Kalyan Krishna, 'Boologam' has 'Jayam' Ravi in the lead role. A grand set has been erected in Chennai for the film.

Apart from 'Boologam', Trisha is currently part of 'Samar' and 'Endrendrum Punnagai', while Ravi is eagerly awaiting the release of Ameer's 'Aadhi Bhagavan'.

Action time for Jiiva in Mumbai

Acclaimed cinematographer Ravi K Chandran is making his directorial debut in Yaan with Jiiva and Thulasi Nair in the lead. The film went on floors recently and the team has completed five days of shooting in Mumbai which consisted of action sequences. Jiiva and Thulasi were also part of the shoot, we hear.

Manisha Koirala diagnosed with cancer ...

Actress Manisha Koirala was hospitalized in Mumbai on November 28th when she fell unconscious. There was intense speculation about her health and the actress went to New York for diagnosis and treatment. Now it has been confirmed that Manisha has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer which has to be operated on immediately.
The surgery was supposed to happen on Thursday but has been postponed to Monday, December 10th. At one point in her career, Manisha was the leading actress in the country and she worked with the biggest names in the industry like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Mani Ratnam, and Shankar. 1942: A Love Story, Bombay, Dil Se are some of her most acclaimed films. Recently, she was seen in Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot Returns.

"Give 4 to 5 hits and then approach Ajith" ...

Recently when director A.R.Murugadoss was asked if Ajith must work with new directors again like how he did when he was an emerging star, the director replied that the new director in question has to first prove himself by delivering four to five successful films. Then only, he has the credibility to approach a big star like Ajith, Murugadoss feels. It must be noted that Ajith worked with directors like SJ Suryah, AL Vijay and Murugadoss himself when these directors were taking their baby steps in the industry.

Good news from Sneha

Actres Sneha has just bagged a meaty role for a project that will be directed by Prakash Raj. The film will be titled ‘Un Samayal Arayil’ and is the official remake of the Malayalam hit film Salt N Pepper. This would be Prakash Raj's third attempt at direction after his previous efforts for the Kannada version of Abhiyum Naanum and the bilingual Dhoni. The film will also supposedly feature Tabu in a crucial role.
The recently married Sneha expressed her joy in signing up for this role since she believes that Prakash Raj is known to make films with substance. She is also happy about the fact that she’s keeping herself busy post her marriage to actor Prassana.

Nayanthara's 'Kuthu' with Dhanush

We had earlier reported that Dhanush is making a guest appearance in Ethir Neechal through a ‘Kuthu’ song. We have now come to know that it is not just him making an appearance, but Nayanthara too. The actress, who is on a comeback mode, has danced for a Kuthu number along with Dhanush.
The shoot for the song has been happening for the past two days. The film, directed by Senthil stars Siva
Karthikeyan and Priyya Anand in the lead and Anirudh, who mesmerized everyone with his music in 3, has composed for this film too. Sony Music holds the music rights for the film and has decided to release it on 14^th December.
Dhanush, apart from producing the film, has written and crooned a couple of songs.

'Machan' comes out

The music of 'Machan', which is being touted as the comeback venture of director Shakthi Chidambaram, was launched in Chennai on Friday.

As part of the audio launch, songs from the movie, composed by Srikanth Deva, were performed live by an orchestra at a popular shopping mall in Chennai.

Sakthi Chidambaram expressed hope that all the songs from the film would emerge hits, since Srikanth Deva has come out with peppy and energetic tunes.

Starring Karunas, Vivek and Sakthi Chidambaram in lead roles, 'Machan' is being claimed as a comedy entertainer. Sheryll Brindo plays the heroine.

Kamal makes waves

The Kamal Hashan wave clearly swept the whole of Tamil Nadu on Friday, as the 'Ulaga Nayagan' launched the audio of his magnum opus 'Viswaroopam' in three cities. After launching the music (composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) in Madurai and Coimbatore, Kamal came back to Chennai in the evening, where a grand event was organised at YMCA Grounds. Kamal's good friends Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja presided over the audio launch function. Many top personalities of Tamil film industry gathered together at the glitzy event. Fans erupted in joy when Kamal made a splashing entry on stage. Speaking on the occasion, the actor thanked his fans for lending their support to him whenever he wanted to try something different.

10 heroes in one song

Sun Picutres's former chief Hansraj Saxena, who turned an independent producer with 'Charulatha', is now busy producing a film titled 'Shivani'.

The horror thriller flick being produced on his Sax Pictures banner has brought together 10 young heroes of Tamil cinema, for a song sequence.

The peppy number, which was recently shot at a night club in Chennai, has actors such as Bharath, Shanthanoo Bhagyaraj, Nandha, Sathya and others shaking their legs to it.

"The song will emerge one of the highlights of the movie. Saxena will start promoting the movie soon and he has devised a unique strategy for it," sources said.

A R Rahamn in Vasanthabalan's next

Director Vasanthabalan is all set to start his next venture, titled 'Kaavia Thalaivan'. The bilingual (Tamil-Telugu) will have Siddharth in the lead.

And interestingly, Vasanthabalan has managed to rope in Oscar-Grammy A R Rahman to compose music for the movie. "An official announcement is expected anytime," say sources.

"The script demands a high budget and also music from a composer like Rahman. So Vasanthabalan decided to have Rahman on board," they add.

A former associate of Shankar, Vasanthabalan has carved a niche for himself in Kollywood with films such as 'Veyyil', 'Angadi Theru' and 'Aravaan'.

Kahaani remake shaping up for Tamil and Telugu

The remake of the film Kahaani, which was a blockbuster in Bollywood is being planned to be done in Tamil and Telugu. The film, which had Vidya Balan in the lead portrayed a mysterious crime story and was greatly appreciated by fans and critics equally soon after it's release. Now it appears that Tollywood filmmaker Sekhar Kammula will be taking up the project and making it as a bilingual.

Sekhar has six Nandi awards under his belt has made several successful films such as Happy Days, Anand, Life is Beautiful etc. in Telugu. He is likely to be helped by Sujoy Ghosh who directed the original film. Rumours suggested that Anushka will be playing the lead in the film, but it was quickly denied. "The rumours that Anushka will play Vidya Balan role in the remakes are not true. They are looking at different actors for the project and are yet to finalize the cast" said a source close to the team.

Samantha has a lip-lock in NEP

Reports have confirmed that there will indeed be a lip-lock in Neethaane En Ponvasantham involving samantha and jiva. A leaked image from the Telugu version of the film in which the actress will be opposite Nani has gotten out in Tollywood and we have information to believe that there will be a similar shot in the Tamil version as well. This is quite a surprise considering samantha roles until now, all of which have seen her play down-to-earth characters.

However, the actress is slowly taking a turn towards a glamour figure and Gautham Menon has possibly convinced her to do the shot in both versions of his film. To make sure that the scene captures the audience's emotion across screens, he has kept the news secret so far. We will only get to see if it's true or not when the film comes out.

Sattam Oru Iruttarai gears up for release

The film 'Sattam Oru Iruttarai' directed by newcomer Sneha Britto is gearing up for release. The project which is a remake of S.A.Chandrasekar's film with the same title has the likes of Taman, Piaa and Bindhu Madhavi playing the lead. Sneha is thrilled to see that her film is finally ready and will be hitting the scenes soon.

Sneha Britto happens to be the cousin of Illayathalapathy Vijay and her film was recently approved by the censor board of India and received a U/A certificate. The project is being produced by S.A.Chandrasekar and Vimala Rani. Apart from the lead actors, Reema Sen is also playing a pivotal role. As per the plan, the film will be hitting screens on the 14th of December.

'NEP' gets U

Gautham Vasudev Menon's much awaited 'Neethane En Ponvasantham' has been cleared by the Censor Board with a clean U certificate.

According to sources, the movie has been cleared by the Censor officials without a single cut.

Starring Jiiva and Samantha in lead roles, the film will hit the screens Friday next (December 14). For the first time, Gautham has tied up with maestro Illayaraja.

With songs from the film becoming a rage already, expectations are running high. Let's hope Gautham and team will fulfill them.

'Viswaroopam' rocks I Tunes charts

The audio album of kamal  'Viswaroopam' occupied a prominent place on the top charts of I Tunes, on the day one of its release.

Within hours the album was launched, it occupied third place in the coveted list. And the songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy are being hailed by music lovers as they struck an instant chord with them.

'Viswaroopam' is produced, scripted and directed by Kamal, who has also played the lead role. After 'Aalavandhan', the actor tied up with the musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, for 'Viswaroopam'.

On Friday, Kamal launched the audio of the film in three cities (Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai) of Tamil Nadu. In the coming days, he will launch the audio of the film's Telugu and Hindi versions.

The surprise element of 'Kumki'

Even as the film getting ready to hit the screens next week, the cast and crew of 'Kumki' met the media in Chennai on Friday and shared some interesting details.

Speaking on the occasion, director Prabhu Solomon said that the film is not just about an elephant and its caretaker. "There is a beautiful love story and it will be the surprise package," he said.

The filmmaker added that he selected Vikram Prabhu for the lead role, not because he is the grandson of thespian Sivaji Ganesan or son of Prabhu.

"Vikram was the perfect fit for the role which I had in my mind. Also, he equipped himself fully well for the character. He will rock after Kumki's release," Prabhu Solomon said.

A.R.Murugadoss' next teaser released

After the path-breaking Engeyum Eppodhum, A.R.Murugadoss and Fox Star Studios are ready with their next offering titled Vathikuchi. The teaser of this movie was released recently and it is impressive indeed.
Deliban and Anjali play lead roles while Jagan is also playing a prominent role, looking at the teaser. While Deliban and Anjali play the love struck pair, the teaser also shows us Jagan and three other friends talking about how the perfect crime can be committed by using the mind rather than physically executing it.
P.Kinslin is the director, R.B.Gurudhev is the cinematographer and M. Ghibran scores the music. Looks like this is going to be another interesting movie from A.R.Murugadoss Productions.

Ethir Neechal track list out

The track list for the film Ethir Neechal, which has Sivakarthikeyan and Priya Anand in the lead has been released by the team. Sony Media Entertainment have bagged the audio rights for the film for more than a whopping one crore. Their impressions about the album seems to be great and Anirudh himself has raised the expectations by suggesting that it would be better than his previous attempt, 3.

Vijay's success and his new title

The entire team of Thuppakki is basking in good reviews and praises. Recently the film’s lead actor Vijay, in order to celebrate the success of the film hosted a superb party for the entire team at his place. The entire team including director AR Murugadoss is said to have attended the party and through their social networking pages, the attendees expressed how good Vijay and his better half, Sangeetha were in throwing parties.
Meanwhile, Vijay is also gearing up for his next film with AL Vijay. It hasn’t been titled yet, but the director is likely to decide on it before he leaves for the schedules in Malaysia and Singapore.
Amala Paul pairs up with actor Vijay for the first time and Santhanam is also part of the cast. Though a formal confirmation on the crew hasn’t come our way, it is expected to be AL Vijay’s usual team, comprising of GV Prakash, Nirav Shah and Anthony.

Rajini's call thrills Pizza director !

The latest high profile audience for the small budget thriller ‘Pizza’ was none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. It is learnt the the legendary matinee idol called up the young director Karthik Subbaraj and conveyed his appreciation of the film. He also asked the director to pass on his congratulations to the producer, cast and crew of the film.
The director, who openly displayed his admiration of Rajinikanth even in the film, was clearly thrilled with the Superstar’s phone call. No surprise that the young man earmarked it as one of the best and happiest moments of his life.

Gautham Menon says to Ajith: I'm waiting...

Gautham Vasudev Menon is gearing up for the release of Neethane En Ponvasantham later this month with a slew of interesting promos for the film. The director took some time off from his schedule to attend a Media conclave at a prestigious womens college in Chennai.
During the event, the floor was open to questions which was when an audience member stood up to ask the director when he would do a project with Ajith. The director responded by saying that he was waiting for Ajith to call him for a project and that he would immediately oblige to the actor’s request.

Shankar's I and its 'The Matrix' connect

Shankar has completed two schedules for his next magnum opus I. The first one happened in Chennai and an action sequence and a song sequence were canned. The second schedule was shot at exotic spots in China. Now the team is all set for their next one, which will again happen in and around Chennai.

Vikram will again flaunt his newly built six pack abs for a high intensity action sequence in the film, we hear. The action sequences are being choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping, who designed stunts for top Hollywood action movies like The Matrix, Kill Bill series and the Academy Award winning Crouching tiger, hidden dragon.
Shankar is also planning to can a song in never-before seen locations of Europe.

Ajith's new one is ready to roll

 
The forthcoming Ajith film which is to be directed by ‘Siruthai’ Siva got off to a formal start with a small pooja at music composer Devi Sri Prasad’s studio in Chennai.
This is the first time that DSP is working for an Ajith film and he is seemingly impressed with director Siva’s script and narration of the story to him. He has also composed a peppy number for the film, one hears.
This film is being produced by Vijaya Productions in a grand manner and popular stars like Tamannah and Santhanam are also part of this film. Given the track record of Siva, one can expect a full-fledged commercial entertainer this time too.

Vijay and Amala Paul for Ghilli 2?

 Amala Paul is all set to romance Vijay in the AL Vijay project which is currently being canned in Mumbai. She is a big fan of Vijay’s Ghilli and has apparently seen the movie close to eight times. She loves Trisha’s character in the movie and would love to do a similar role in the near future.
She has even thrown in her hat for a possible sequel to Ghilli and has proposed a pair-up between her and Vijay for this sequel. Her idea seems promising and interesting but does any other director have similar ideas?

 Neethane En Ponvasantham is the latest film to be submitted before the censor board after Kumki and Sattam Oru Iruttarai, which are the other two films scheduled to be released on the same day- December 14^th.
The movie has been successful in getting a clean ‘U’ from the Censor board. An official press release from the film-maker’s end also reveals that some members have been highly appreciative about the film and some have gone the distance to call it ‘The Best Romantic Movie Ever’.
Such lavish praises from the industry raises the expectations of the audience who are already looking forward to this film.

Kumki Cast: Vikram Prabhu, Lakshmi Menon Direction: Prabhu Solomon Kumki promises to be something special as it is the debut film of Vikram Prabhu, grandson of the legendary Sivaji Ganesan and son of Prabhu. Directed by Prabhu Solomon, whose last film, Mynaa made a huge impact, the story revolves around a mahout. Lakshmi Menon is the heroine. Endrendrum Punnagai Cast: Jiiva, Trisha Direction: Ahmed Jiiva and Trisha will be pairing up for the first time in Ahmed’s Endrendrum Punnagai. The makers have promised a lovely and frothy romance.
